All in the family

This is John McCallum.  I don't know him from Adam.  I was just innocently looking for our McCallum Tartan to post to my readers( all three of you)!  I will not be posting anything until I return from Scotland;  I know your hearts bleed for me, again all three of you!  Back to John, he seems like a nice chap.  He likes to watch "serious" TV, listening to music such as ELO, Abba, The Moody Blues, and Queen(we shan't forget Freddie).  His words, not mine and no we SHAN'T! He also likes Phil Collins and dancing to Madness.  I have never heard of Madness, but will You Tube them shortly.  He likes red wine.  Now we're talking the same language. He also likes the occasional whiskey up in his summerhouse.  I don't know about the whiskey, but when in Rome?!  His summerhouse looks quaint and small.   Alright John it has been a pleasure "meeting" you. You look quite nice in our family tartan and even though I don't know you from Adam,  we could be related.  Wouldn't that be a kick.  Signing off and off to Scotland, Nan

Family Movie Night

I have to say that I am a big fan of Netflix...I love getting movies that should be available in the Ville, but are not.  If they are, then inevitably they are scratched.  A scratched movie just makes me crazy, the boys get all foul, and if we are at the point of "watching" a movie in the first place, then it needs to "play" accordingly, not "skip" a few chapters, not "stop", not give me any digital lip, just "play".  So anyway, I love Netflix because in the three plus years, I have never had any problems.  Yes, I'm knocking on some wood.  So I would love some suggestions for good family movies that we can all enjoy on Movie Night.  In turn, here are some that I would recommend.  5 Children and It ships out today.  Hooray for Netflix.  The following are in no particular order.

1. That Darn Cat
2. Crocodile Dundee
3. Fly Away Home
4. The Waterhorse

Memories

We passed this station wagon on the way back to Logan Airport  and I just had to take a picture of it.  This was my first car or wagon.  It was navy blue with wood paneling.  It was suppose to build "character".  I am still scratching my head on that one.  It was a tank.  I kind of liked it.  My dear friend Martha had one too.  Hers was gray with wood paneling.  Together we were the "grocery go getters".  We would park next to each other at school.  We thought we were cool, in our own weird way.  We also thought we were "really cool" listening to the Cars on a tape recorder, walking on the beach at St. George. Ahhh,  memories of the way we were.

The Yin and the Yang of Gardening

"Weeds are flowers too, once you get to know them."  A.A. Milne

Obviously, A.A. Milne didn't live in South GA.  I spent an hour last night and hour this morning trying to reclaim my garden, and I maybe have been successful on accomplishing that in about a 1/4 of it.  I'll be back at it tonight. So, why do I do this?  Well, it is therapeutic.  It has great benefits like the yummy basil green goddess dressing I will be making tonight and having loveliness(flowers) in mason jars daily.  So I guess I will keep doing this, so that I can have this( see above pictures).  I love A.A. Milne, but I am going to have to disagree with him on the subject of weeds.

More MA. and ME.

Boston, MA.

We had  a great family vacation in Boston, MA. and all over Maine.  The kids are such a fun age, the weather was a much needed change from South Georgia, and that part of the country is just beautiful.  Here is a photo diary of our trip.  I am ready to go back NOW.  Thanks George and Gail for having us.  I am still trying to work off all that "lobstah and buttah".  I have not had a chance to go buy dominos, but I probably will today.   I came away renewed, and inspired.  Traveling is just good for the soul;It reinforces the idea of home is where your heart is and why I love traveling with my family.
